Hans Helbekkmo Appointed New Regional Director for PRMIA San Francisco
PRMIA announces today the appointment of Hans Helbekkmo to the position of Regional Director of the San Francisco Chapter. Hans is currently the Head of Credit Portfolio Risk at Union Bank in San Francisco. Hans is responsible for enterprise wide Economic Capital and RAROC methodology, as well as heading up the Stress Testing program. His responsibilities for Basel II include leading the implementation for Retail Banking and ICAAP.
Before joining Union Bank, Hans was a Managing Director in ERisk’s consulting practice, where he provided risk analytics and consulting solutions to financial institutions. Prior to ERisk, he was a member of Oliver Wyman’s risk practice. He holds an MBA from INSEAD and a Master’s degree from Cambridge University.
Mr. Helbekkmo has extensive experience advising financial institutions on risk management issues covering all forms of risk, including credit, market, insurance, and operational risk. His work in risk management has taken him around the world, to both of the developed markets of Europe and North America, as well as the emerging economies of Latin America and Asia.
Hans will be replacing Laurent Birade and Joseph Masri, the previous Co-Regional Directors of the San Francisco Chapter. The three main activities Hans will be concentrating on for the chapter includes the continuance of evening mixers, which are bi-monthly free sponsored events with a presentation of general interest followed by a networking reception. He will also be looking at planning one day conferences on broad topics of current interest and will continue to produce the chapter newsletter, reinforcing the value of PRMIA as well as announcing and encouraging training and courses around the PRM on a regular basis. To support these activities, Hans will be working to expand the chapter steering committee and volunteers committee to set a strong, active and stable foundation to further develop chapter activities. The chapter will also be working towards arranging ‘career days’ to bring together students and prospective employees.
PRMIA would like to take this opportunity to thank Laurent Birade and Joseph Masri for their contributions to the San Francisco chapter as Co-Regional Directors and to the global organization. Laurent and Joseph served the San Francisco membership as Co-Regional Directors from May 2007- August 2009. PRMIA is delighted that Joseph is able to support the PRMIA Toronto chapter as a steering committee member.
