Shanghai Chapter Held Seminars on Risk Management
Two seminars were held in July 2011 on risk management:
1. "Economic Capital and Use of Economic Capital."
Jie Wen Tan, the Head of Economic Capital at Asia Pacific Risk Strategy of HSBC, shared his view on the latest development of economic capital as applied in daily banking operation interms of deal limit setting, risk appetite determination and portfolio management. The audience challenged the speaker on the relevance of economic capital in a rapidly changing economy such as China. All agreed, though, the concept of economic capital will help improve the culture of risk management in China.
2. "Case Study on Chinese Customs Administration's Risk Culture"
Weihua Ni, a former custom official, shared his view of the insitutional factors affecting the risk culture of China's Custom. The rich details the speaker brought to the audience facilitated a lively debate on various trade policy issues including tariff, smuggling and RMB convertibility.
