May 3rd Securitization Symposium
Since the beginning of the financial crisis, the securitization market has essentially been closed for business. While there have been numerous efforts to re-kindle the market, including various Federal Reserve programs, securitized origination volumes remain muted.
As Chris Whalen notified the Washington D.C. PRMIA Chapter on January 23rd, your DC Steering Committee has been working hard behind the scenes planning our 4th FDIC & PRMIA co-sponsored Symposium. Additional details will be coming out in the coming weeks, but we encourage sustaining members and others that wish to attend to block out May 3rd on your calendar and sign-up early by visiting the DC Chapter's website.
This Symposium on Issues in Securitization is designed to bring together various industry thought-leaders on this complex topic, including members of the buy-side investment community, leading researchers and industry spokes-people, regulators, rating agencies, and financial industry supervisors. The format of the Symposium is designed to foster an open-dialogue around structural, market, and new product concepts, and will provide an opportunity to debate and confirm potential paths forward in the revitalization of this critical market. During the Symposium we will cover:
* The FDIC's recent ANPR and "Skin in the Game" Proposal
* The Future of the U.S. Home Loan Securitization Market
* Covered Bonds: The Potential for U.S. Growth
* A State of the Union Address on the Markets and Market Outlook
Currently, the following speakers are planning to attend and, given the critical substance of the topic, we expect that the event will fill-up fast. Our Chapter's events calendar link (best viewed with Firefox) provides current details and a draft program agenda. Seating is limited and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The DCSC has a couple of additional updates for our DC Chapter members:
* We will be holding a DC Chapter meeting on June 1st. Additional details will be posted on our 2010 calendar soon. IBM has kindly offered to sponsor the event and the well known EVP of Risk Management, SunGard - Dr. David Rowe - will be our honored speaker. As you know, Dr. Rowe writes a monthly piece for Risk Magazine and has been an industry leader for years. Keep watching this page for more details.
* We are proud to announce that we have two new members of the DC Steering Committee: Chris Laursen of NERA and Keith Ligon of the FDIC. Several others have expressed an interest in joining the DC Steering Committee and the DCSC is hopeful that it will be able to announce some additional DC SC members in the near future, along with a renewed emphasis on PRM training and collaboration with some of our prestigious local universities. Our own John Schwitz of the DCSC has taken the helm of the Chapter's "Training and Professional Development Subcommittee" and will be announcing additional details of our Chapter's initiatives in the coming weeks. If you are interested in more details or would like to assist John in these efforts, please let us know.
Looking forward to seeing you soon.
