PRMIA Awards Accreditation to North-West University Quantitative Risk Management Programme

PRMIA today announced that it has awarded Risk Management Accreditation to the Quantitative Risk Management Program at North-West University in Potchefstroom.

The program is designed to identify and endorse university degree programs that prepare candidates for careers as professional risk managers. Students completing appropriate courses within accredited degree programs will be eligible for exemption from PRMIA's Professional Risk Manager (PRM) Exams I and II, which form a major part of the PRM certification program, the global standard for the world's top financial risk professionals. All students will still be required to pass Exams III and IV in the PRM program.

The Quantitative Risk Management Program, a part of North-West University's Centre for Business Mathematics and Informatics (BMI), consists of a three year BSc degree, a one-year honours degree, and a one year Master's degree.

"The PRMIA accreditation of our BSc honours degree programme in Quantitative Risk Management is extremely valuable," says Professor PJ de Jongh, Director of the Centre for BMI. "South African students and their parents place a high premium on internationally recognised degrees, and we now have proof that our degree is recognised by a world leading international professional risk management training body. Also, because we are the first university to receive PRMIA accreditation in South Africa, we can truly claim that our programme is the leading risk management programme in South Africa and on par with the best in the world."

PRMIA Announces Associate PRM Award Winner

PRMIA today announced that Dhiraj Anand, a Business Analyst with RBS in India, is the winner of the PRMIA Associate PRM Emerging Market Award.

This award was given to the PRMIA emerging market member who scored the most correct answers on the Associate PRM exam, from September 16, 2008 - December 31, 2008. The Associate PRM is a new and innovative PRMIA certificate program intended for staff entering the risk management profession, or those who interface with risk management disciplines on a regular basis, such as audit, accounting, legal, HR and systems development personnel who want to do so more effectively by gaining an understanding of fundamental risk management methods and practices.

To make this award possible and encourage risk managers from emerging markets to expand their risk management skills, David R. Koenig, former Chair of the PRMIA Board of Directors and former PRMIA Executive Director, donated the $1,000 prize that he received as winner of the 2008 PRMIA Higher Standard Award.

Mr. Anand passed the Associate PRM exam in October and then went on to take and pass the Professional Risk Managers (PRM) Exams I and II. Passing the Associate PRM exam offers an exemption to PRM Exam IV, leaving Mr. Anand needing to pass only PRM Exam III before he receives the PRM designation, the world's leading certification for risk managers.

"Thank you to PRMIA and David Koenig for giving me this award," says Dhiraj Anand. "I work as a Business Analyst in the risk domain and wanted to increase my risk knowledge and make myself a more effective analyst. I saw the Associate PRM as a stepping stone to the PRM exam. Studying for and taking the Associate PRM and PRM exams has enhanced my risk knowledge and given me confidence to deal with my colleagues who are more directly involved with day-to-day risk activities."

"The Associate PRM program is an important advancement in the development of risk management standards globally," said David R. Koenig. "Mr. Anand is to be congratulated for his leadership in pursuing this designation and his performance." Mr. Koenig continued, "I hope that the accessibility of this program will lead to broad adoption of the Associate PRM credential throughout emerging and developed markets."
