PRMIA and Ernst & Young Offer Webcast Discussing New Paradigms in Risk Management
Join PRMIA and Ernst & Young LLP on 19 May at 1:00 p.m. EDT for a live Thought Center Webcast on the issues risk professionals face as they look to understand their new operating environment and adapt risk and regulatory cultures to meet new paradigms.
Traditionally there has been a separation of credit, market and operational risk functions within many financial services institutions. The effects of the current economic crisis indicate that this is no longer acceptable. Institutions are answering the call from internal and external stakeholders for improvements in transparency and communication across all risk classes, but there are challenges.
Our panelists bring diverse perspectives and experiences - practitioner, regulator and academic - and will discuss:
The balance between quantitative and qualitative assessments
The changing regulatory environment
Process and control improvements
Panelists
Paul Glasserman, Jack R. Anderson Professor of Business Finance at Columbia University Graduate School of Business
Paul Shotton, Managing Director, Deputy Head of Group Portfolio Risk Control and Head of Group Risk Methodology, UBS Ag
Ben Golub, Vice Chairman & Chief Risk Officer, Blackrock, Inc.
Michael Moriarty, Deputy Superintendent for Property and Capital Markets at the New York State Insurance Department

PRMIA Partners with NYU Stern School of Business to Introduce Two Valuable Training Opportunities
PRMIA and NYU Stern School of Business have joined together to offer two upcoming training courses:
Valuation
June 8 & 9, 2009
NYU Stern School of Business
The objective of this program is to provide the fundamentals of the different valuation approaches, an understanding of the limitations of each approach, and examples of each of the applications. The program will address discounted cash flow valuation and the estimation issues that arise when information is imprecise or unavailable, value enhancement through the prism of discounted cash flow models, and contrast techniques. It will also delve into other valuation approaches, such as the use of multiples and comparables in relative valuation, and the use of option pricing to value certain types of stocks and businesses.

Integrated Risk Management: Enhancing Competitive Performance
September 21 - 23, 2009
NYU Stern School of Business
With a "generalist" focus on this subject, this program will be as non-technical as possible and will involve appropriate input of concepts, observations and applied cutting edge perspectives from the faculty - but will equally draw on the experience of the participants.
The content will cover how effective risk management cuts across a range of disciplines, including finance, economics, applied mathematics and actuarial science and touches on strategic and tactical management as well as various banking, insurance and corporate functions.
The course covers a variety of instruments and techniques, as well as the emergence of new risk measures and serious problems that can occur from misunderstanding the interdependencies among different risk domains. Risk models themselves are inevitably based on historical data, and can be subject to model risk which by itself needs to be understood and taken into account.
