PRMIA Announces the Champions of the 2017 Risk Management Challenge!

PRMIA Risk Management Challenge (2017)

41 schools. 104 teams. 403 competitors.
1 International champion team takes home the $10,000 prize!

On April 7, 2017, nine international team finalists met in London at the state-of-the-art Wall Street Journal offices to participate in the final championship round of the PRMIA Risk Management Challenge (PRMC). The nine teams represented undergraduate and graduate students from universities/colleges across New York, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton, Russia, Italy and Ireland.

All finalists made it through their local regional round challenges by analyzing a case study on Metro do Porto and their interest rate swap from 2007 that is infamous for its ‘snowball clause’. At the international challenge finalists convened at the WSJ offices, where each team had 15 minutes to present their solution to the case study on Dominion Gas Holdings, Anticipatory Interest Rate Hedging followed by a rigorous 10 minutes of questions and answers from the judging panel.

"Overall, the PRMIA risk management challenge was a fantastic experience. Each stage in the competition challenged us, pushed us to think creatively and enhance our team collaboration skills, all which will benefit us as we begin our career endeavours. It allowed us to apply our knowledge to real life risk management cases which boosted our confidence. The opportunity to present our findings and network with risk management practitioners was thrilling. Therefore, I cannot recommend the challenge enough for both undergraduates and postgraduates. You gain a true understanding of risk management and it is also a great opportunity to network with individuals in the risk management field, especially in a time where risk management is paramount to the success of every business."  Sinéad McInerney, University of Limerick - MSc of Science in Risk Management & Insurance

All teams, along with PRMIA London chapter members, were privileged to attend a luncheon on Risk Culture featuring Lesley Jones, Non-Executive Director. Lesley shared her views and experiences on career progression and risk culture, touching on how risk culture has changed over the years and where she sees it going in the future. The presentation was valuable for experienced practitioners while providing an engaging look at the risk management profession for the students in attendance.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our 2017 PRMC Judges!
