PRMIA ANNOUNCES FORMATION OF ACADEMIC ADVISORY COUNCIL

November 13, 2002 - The Professional Risk Managers' International Association (PRMIA) is pleased to announce the formation of the PRMIA Academic Advisory Council.

The PRMIA Academic Advisory Council has been formed with two of PRMIA's mission objectives in mind: to drive the integration of risk management theory and practice, and to connect practitioners, researchers and students involved in the risk management arena. Its charge will be to foster a two-way flow of information and resources between leading academic institutions and PRMIA members.

"We are honored that U.C. Berkeley, the ISMA Centre at the University of Reading, IIT Stuart Graduate School of Business, Macquarie University and Wroclaw University, are involved with this committee " noted David R. Koenig, Chair of the Interim Board of PRMIA. "These are all excellent examples of programs leading the advancement of our profession and their geographic diversity is very consistent with that of the membership of PRMIA."

The academic focus on risk management is rapidly growing, with new programs in risk management being created at leading institutions around the world. With the PRMIA Mission focus on the free exchange of ideas, standards setting and educational efforts that cut across geographic and professional boundaries, partnerships with the academic community are being requested nearly every week. The Academic Advisory Council will work with PRMIA to best meet the needs of these institutions.

PRMIA has made collaboration with academic programs in risk management a primary focus and has received inquiries of interest from institutions on four continents. Through local meetings at its 33 regional chapters, resources provided through its web site, it Standards of Best Practice, Conduct and Ethics and the PRMIA Certified Risk Manager program, which is offered in over 350 cities, PRMIA works to connect risk managers around the globe.

The Macquarie Applied Finance Centre (Macquarie University) is based in Sydney, Australia. The Master of Applied Finance degree program is the focus of the centre's teaching. The program is offered in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo and is the largest of its kind in the world. IIT Stuart's Finance Program is designed to provide students planning careers in corporate finance, investments, or computational finance with the advanced skills in applied finance required in today's competitive financial environment.
