At a time of rising public concern about environmental degradation, climate change, social injustice and governance failures, financial institutions ignore the environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks to which they are exposed at their peril. Effective management of ESG risks relies upon consistent identification, sound measurement and transparent reporting. However, when experts do not yet agree on definitions of these risks, how can firms cope? Our panel of experts will discuss these key issues as well as how financial institutions are addressing them.
Discussion:
- What is environmental, social and governance (ESG) risk?
- Why should financial institutions care about ESG risk?
- What are the challenges in managing ESG risk?
- How can firms report on their own exposures and the exposures of their clients?
- What are firms doing now to enhance their ESG disclosures?.
