Recent years have seen a number of high-profile enforcement actions, fines, and penalties against financial institutions. The increasing threat of punitive measures has spurred increased investment in monitoring techniques, with leading banks seeking to improve detection capabilities.
Within most banks, AML has traditionally been a compliance-led process. So what exactly is the role of risk management? To what extent can established techniques in risk model development and validation improve the quality of detection?
