About This Webinar

The outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and its global spread since February has created significant immediate challenges to society and risks for the economic outlook. Although the long-term magnitude of the economic shock cannot yet be quantified, the expectations are that it will dampen economic activity. The 2020 GDP estimates and insolvency forecasts are being readjusted as the pandemic continues to spread around the globe and the governments take preventive restrictive measures. At the same time financial markets are already experiencing the worst shocks since the 2008 crisis. For banks, the coronavirus both impacts their operations and also manifests as increased Credit and Market Risks, and these should be addressed by their ERM processes leveraging the existing risk management tools like Stress Testing and Forward-looking Scenario Analysis.

Additionally, a health crisis presents unique operational challenges that often are not addressed by traditional business continuity management systems. Conducting a thorough analysis of specific operational risk scenarios is an important component of a pandemic preparedness plan.  Risk managers can contribute to this effort by leveraging some elements of the operational risk management programs such as scenario analysis, key risk indicators and the issue tracking and resolution process.
