In the first of a series of Cyber Risk Events at PRMIA, we will look at a risk management definition of cyber risk and how the risk management professional can work with their colleagues in IT, management and on the board to manage this risk. More relevant in 2020, we will look at whether there is an industry wide risk in the forced and rapid move to online business and remote access / working from home that came upon us with social distancing due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

• Can board members assure their stakeholders that this was done in a prudent manner and how do they communicate this to more technical IT colleagues?
• How can the risk professional help with this process?
• Does the “3 Layers of Defense” help in managing Cyber Risk?
  
  

This will be the first in a series of Cyber events for PRMIA and relates to a call for papers from the PRMIA Institute this summer on topics such as Cyber as well as Climate, Model and COVID-19 Risks.

		Suraj Srinivasan, Philip J. Stomberg Professor of Business Administration, Unit Head, Accounting and Management, Harvard Business School Suraj Srinivasan is a Professor in the Accounting and Management area at Harvard Business School. He is currently the course-head for the HBS required course Financial Reporting and Control. He also teaches to executives, Strategic Financial Analysis for Business Evaluation, and in corporate governance programs Making Corporate Boards More Effective, Audit Committees in a New Era of Governance and Compensation Committees: New Challenges, New Solutions, in the elective course Business Analysis and Valuation using Financial Statements and in HBS doctoral programs. Prior to joining HBS, Professor Srinivasan was an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business from 2004 – 2008 where he received the Ernest R. Wish Accounting Research prize in 2007.
		Neil Curan, Cyber Risk Expert Neil Curran is a Cyber Security & IT Risk Manager with nearly 20 years experience within the Banking, Financial Services, FinTech, Insurance & IT sectors. Neil’s experience has included serving as a  Senior Vice President for Operational Risk at Citigroup, where he was one of the pillars supporting the establishment of a new technology & cyber focused second line of defense function. Neil has also been closely involved previously with volunteering with ISACA Ireland & ISACA International.
		Justin McCarthy, Chair, PRMIA Institute, Member of the Global Board, PRMIA Justin McCarthy has worked in governance, risk management and compliance roles in many firms, including Bank of America Merrill Lynch, PricewaterhouseCoopers and with the Irish Financial Regulator. He worked on the Risk Based Supervision System “PRISM” which at the Central Bank of Ireland. This work has allowed him to see the changes in risk management through and beyond the recent global financial crisis. However, in earlier work, he served as a network and security engineer with EMC. He is the chair of PRMIA Institute and a member of the Global Board of Directors of PRMIA  Justin has a BSc from University College Cork and an MBA from the Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business at University College Dublin.He is studying for his Corporate Director Certificate at Harvard Business School.
