PRMIA Welcomes New Regional Directors

PRMIA is pleased to introduce the new Regional Directors and Co-Regional Directors of the Calgary, Chile, Edmonton, and Italy Chapters. Regional Directors are responsible for chapter activities, including leading chapter steering committees, developing local partnerships, and delivering local and global chapter initiatives and communications. PRMIA would like to welcome and thank the new Regional Directors for their commitment and dedication. 

Doug Cronk, Co-Regional Director, PRMIA Calgary
Doug Cronk, CFA, PRM, is a Board Director on the YMCA Edmonton Foundation Board and advisor to the YMCA Edmonton Foundation Investment Committee. He has been a PRMIA Steering Committee member for the Edmonton and Calgary chapters since 2016. Doug is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) as well as a Professional Risk Manager (PRM) and is an institutional Pension Investment and Risk Management Officer and practitioner.


Esteban Olivares Arellano, Regional Director, PRMIA Chile
Esteban Olivares Arellano is a Partner at Pavez & Olivares Asociados consulting company. He holds a Master in Finance, Information and Control Engineer, Accountant Auditor, all from the University of Chile. He holds an Operational Risk Manager certificate by Professional Risk Managers International Association.
 
He has served as a Corporate Manager at the Mutual Security Risks of the Chilean Chamber of Construction, as well as a Technological and Operational Risks Manager at Santander Group in Chile. He has also worked at the Superintendence of Banks and Financial Institutions and held several positions in internal audit departments within the banking industry. Currently he is an Academic at the School of Economics and Business of the University of Chile, teaching courses on Internal Control, Risk Management and Audit for graduate and undergraduate programs.


Jammi Rao, Co-Regional Director, PRMIA Edmonton
Jammi Rao is an accomplished commercial banking professional having worked in increasingly senior positions in commercial banks in India, Japan, Kuwait and Canada. Over the course of his career spanning more than 36 years, he has acquired experience in treasury trading floor, commercial & retail banking and investment management. Jammi is currently the Vice President, Business Services and Regulatory Practices at the Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation (CUDGC) in Edmonton Canada, the regulator of Alberta’s Credit Unions. His oversight responsibilities include Strategic Planning, Information Technology, Regulatory Practices and Data Analytics.

Jammi brings proven leadership experience, excellent communication skills, and an ability to grasp complex technical concepts required for sound analysis and decision making. He possesses specialized skills in financial and enterprise risk management and brings practical experience of governance at both board and senior management levels.

Jammi believes in giving back to the risk community and says he feels fulfilled by contributing his time and expertise to furthering PRMIA’s activities in Edmonton, in particular, and Canada in general.


Christoph Frei, Co-Regional Director, PRMIA Edmonton
Christoph Frei is an Associate Professor of Mathematical Finance at the University of Alberta. He grew up in Switzerland and studied mathematics at ETH Zurich. During his PhD studies in mathematical finance at ETH Zurich, he worked in the financial industry. After receiving his PhD degree, Christoph was a researcher at École Polytechnique in Paris before joining the University of Alberta in 2010. While on sabbatical from the University of Alberta in the academic year 2016/7, Christoph was working on research projects about the market of credit default swaps at the U.S. Federal Reserve Board and on an independent verification of risk models with UBS in the U.S. regulatory context. He has several ongoing collaborations with the financial industry in the areas of machine learning and risk management. His current research is in mathematical finance (algorithmic trading and credit risk management) as well as mathematical economics (over-the-counter markets and the economic impact of digital currencies).


Giampaolo Gabbi, Regional Director, PRMIA Italy
Giampaolo Gabbi is Professor of Risk Management Practice at the SDA Bocconi School of Management, where he heads the Financial Institutions Custom Programs Division. He has been Professor of Financial Investments and Risk Management and Financial Engineering at the University of Siena. He has taught in London and Parma. He has conducted numerous research and training projects with leading figures in the banking and insurance sectors. He has managed board induction sessions on risks and regulatory issues. Author of numerous essays and articles, he is a member of the Italian Association of Financial Industry Risk Managers (AIFIRM) and Chairman of the Scientific Committee for Risk Management Magazine of the Association. He is Department Editor for the Journal published by the Association of Professors of Economics of Financial Intermediaries (ADEIMF).
