PRMIA Announces 2021 Risk Management Challenge International Finalists

Congratulations to the PRMIA Risk Management Challenge regional winners who will advance to the international finals on April 19, 2021. The 12 finalist teams will compete in two streams of judging (six teams each). The top team from each stream will compete against each other during the afternoon session for the international championship.

Fifty-seven teams representing a total of 221 students competed in this year's Challenge. Eleven PRMIA chapters hosted regional round events worldwide to narrow down the field to 12 finalist teams. We would like to recognize the tremendous dedication demonstrated by all of the teams and volunteers to persevere in this year's Challenge despite the disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic. This year's competition was fully virtual to ensure its continuity.

The students analyzed a famous currency options desk scandal that happened at NAB with regards to valuation. After the analysis, they proposed a modern risk dashboard that was coded in MATLAB or alternative software packages. The solutions provided included a better risk control framework for the options market desk and an analysis of earnings smoothing.
