Operational Resilience - A New Age of Reason?

The financial sector has developed pioneering business continuity capabilities and innovative incident management solutions. By and large, these capabilities have stood the test of time in that they have delivered operational continuity through very challenging events which we analyze in the paper.  The digitalization of customer channels, the growth of cyber threats and the risk of abrupt changes in political and legislative environments will inevitably challenge resilience in new ways. At every step, difficult questions, unpleasant scenarios considered and probably unpalatable decisions may be taken. Ultimately, their success or failure in these enterprises will boil down not only to their footprints or strategies but also skillsets, culture, and leadership. In our latest paper, we explore the latest developments in operational resilience, from regulatory updates to latest best practices.

Risk Culture in Times of Great Uncertainty - Part 1

March 11, 2021

The success of any process and system is reliant on the perceptions, actions and practices of employees, thus a “cultural mindset” should be pre-defined this includes outlining and inculcating the rules of engagement. Larger organisations tend to face challenges in discerning cultural changes perpetuated by the development of sub-cultures within various business divisions. A greater need to exhibit how risk culture can be effectively controlled and measured across more complex organisations is presented. This requires a clear understanding of risk culture, its benefits, how maturity can be determined and demonstrated as well as possible causes of failure in this very critical aspect of risk management.
